How I keep Eczema at bay

When you suffer from eczema or you have a child that suffers from the condition you are always extremely wary of what you put on their skin.

My own toddler suffers very bad bouts of what we found out after several visits to the dermatologist was eczema from 6 months old. I had to watch everything he ate, creams we used, washing powder and bath products used.

Every Day products for Sensitive Skin

We have a good system in place at the minute, at bath time we use Child's Farm Bubble Bath and Child's Farm Shampoo.

With eczema, it is essential you keep the skin moisturised! It is almost a part time job, any time he stays still I was covering him in moisturiser. The moisturiser we use at the minute is Child's Farm. I say at the minute because what works one month may not work the next, keeping eczema at bay it a trial and error system. Other products that have worked in the past is La Roche Posay Lipikar Syndet to wash his skin and the Baume AP to moisturise. This is a fantastic moisturiser and can be used by all the family. All these products can be purchased at Molloys Pharmacy

During flare ups, we do have to resort to a steroid cream unfortunately but if he is moisturised within an inch of his life the flare up doesn’t seem to last too long.

Children's Sun Protection and Eczema

When the warmer weather started to come in and he was out in the sun during the day I knew I had to start thinking about sun creams. I have always reached for the same brand of sun cream for my other children and I presumed it would be okay for the toddler. It wasn't, it caused a bad flare up. I went through a few assorted brands and each one of them made his skin itchy, raised and hot to touch. So bad that he was back on the steroid creams.

Eventually after asking some advice from other mums I was recommended La Roche Posay ANTHELIOS DERMO-PEDIATRICS SPF 50+  I purchased it in Molloys Pharmacy and I have not looked back since.

I apply it knowing it is not going to cause a reaction to his sensitive skin and it dries super quick which is essential when you have a busy toddler who wants to get outside to play!

I have been using the Wet Skin Gel Lotion version of the product line as there is always some water flying about from either water guns or paddling pools and this is water resistant. It leaves no stains and it is not greasy at all.

If you or your child has eczema having peace of mind with sun protection and the product you are putting on sensitive skin is important. I know when I put the La Roche Posay ANTHELIOS DERMO-PEDIATRICS SPF 50+ in his bag every day before I go to work he is protected from the sun and it won't be the cause of a flare up.
