Blood Sugar Screening

What is a Blood Sugar Screening?

A blood sugar screening is a procedure that measures the amount of sugar, or glucose, in your blood.

Glucose is your body's main source of energy. A hormone called insulin helps move glucose from your bloodstream into your cells

People with diabetes can also use this test to manage their condition.

Taking a blood sugar test can help determine your blood sugar level to see if you need to adjust your diet, exercise, or diabetes medications.

Why check Blood Sugar Levels?

Checking your blood sugars is an important part of living with diabetes. If you take certain medication, like insulin or sulphonylureas, checking your Blood Sugars can help you determine if and when you need to take more medication and/or when you need to eat something .

Checking your blood sugars often can help you know when you might be starting to go too low (called a hypo) or too high (called a hyper). It’s a way of getting to know your body and how it works.

How does the Screening work?

Firstly Our Pharamcist will complete a risk assessment questionnaire with you. They will then take a small drop of blood from the tip of your finger. You will be given the results instantly and given an indication of the amount of glucose or sugar in the blood. Our Pharmacist can then advise the next steps depending on your result

**PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NEED TO BE FASTING FROM 12AM THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR TEST
